Free Trading

How the zero-fee path works and who qualifies

Free Trading

Most accounts trade with zero Hyperliquid builder fees until $1B cumulative lifetime trading volume — and this applies whether you signed in with a new Aura account or your own existing wallet.

Trading on Aura is gasless — this page is only about the Aura builder fee. (If you deposit or bridge from your own external wallet, that funding transaction still pays the network's normal gas. See Fees & Costs.)

How it works

When you enable trading, Aura is set as your Hyperliquid referrer. With Aura as your referrer, the builder fee is waived: Hyperliquid's protocol pays referrers a share of your trading fees from its own fee pool, at no extra cost to you. This is how Aura earns revenue on the zero-fee path without charging you directly.

The referral relationship is set once during the enable-trading flow and can't be changed afterward — Hyperliquid enforces this at the protocol level. This is also why the one condition below exists.

When the fee applies instead

You'll pay the builder fee (0.001%, or 0.1 basis point, per order) only if:

  • Your Hyperliquid account already had a different referrer before you joined Aura. Because Hyperliquid referrals are permanent, Aura can't replace an existing one, so the zero-fee path isn't available for that account.
  • You cross $1B lifetime trading volume. Above this threshold the standard rate applies.

When charged, the fee applies across all Hyperliquid markets except perps.fun. See Builder Fee for the full breakdown.

External wallet accounts

Signing in with an existing wallet (MetaMask, Rabby, etc.) gets you the same zero-fee path: enabling trading sets Aura as your referrer just like it does for a new Aura account. The only exception is the one above — if that wallet's Hyperliquid account already had a referrer before you joined Aura, the 0.001% fee applies.

What you still pay

  • Hyperliquid trading fees — maker/taker rates set by Hyperliquid based on your 14-day volume tier. These are unchanged regardless of how you signed in. See Hyperliquid's fee schedule.
  • Polymarket fees — Polymarket has its own fee structure for prediction market trades. See Polymarket's docs.
